Writing the stories is the part nobody enjoys. You know what the work is, but turning that into a clear title, a readable description and acceptance criteria your teammates can actually follow takes time you would rather spend building.
So we added an AI assistant directly to the board to do the boring half of that for you. It is live now, and the part we are most pleased about is the price: it is included in your plan. No new tier, no per-message meter, no add-on to buy.
Turn rough notes into a proper story
Open any story and you will see a small AI button in the editor. Write your description however it comes out, messy and half-finished is fine, then pick what you want:
- Improve writing turns rough notes into a clear, well-structured story.
- Fix grammar cleans up spelling and punctuation without changing your wording.
- Make concise trims a rambling description down to the essentials.
It works the same way on acceptance criteria and test descriptions. Every result is shown as a suggestion first, so you read it and either accept it or discard it. Nothing is ever rewritten behind your back.
Teach it how your team works
Generic AI writing sounds generic. So each team gets a short playbook in its settings, a few lines where you describe your house style: how you phrase acceptance criteria, what your story points mean, the tone you like. The assistant reads that every time it helps, so the output sounds like your team wrote it, not like a robot.
It is the difference between an assistant that guesses and one that already knows how you work.
Dictate with your voice
Sometimes it is faster to just say it. Click the microphone, talk through the story, and click stop. Your recording is transcribed, the "ums" and false starts are cleaned out, and the tidy text drops straight into the editor. It is a quick way to capture a thought in standup without typing a word.
Included, because that is how we price things
Plenty of tools have bolted AI on as a separate, more expensive plan, or a credit balance you top up. We did not want to do that. Scrumpy has always been one flat plan with every feature included, and the AI assistant is no exception. Editors get it at the same $9 per month, and view-only seats stay free.
Your content stays yours, too. Stories and recordings are sent to our AI provider only to generate the result you asked for, and are never used to train AI models. If you would rather not use it at all, an admin can switch it off for the team.
Try it
If you already have a board, open a story and look for the AI button in the editor. If you do not, you can start a free 7-day trial with every feature included, this one as well, and no credit card required.
The goal has never changed: spend less time wrestling with the tool, and more time doing the work. This is one more piece of the boring part handed off, so you can get back to the board.
Frequently asked questions
Does the AI assistant cost extra?
No. It is part of the same flat plan as everything else, $9 per editor per month with every feature included. There are no AI tiers, no per-message fees, and no usage add-ons to buy.
Do you train AI models on our stories?
No. Your stories and voice recordings are sent to our AI provider only to produce the result you asked for, and they are not used to train AI models. An admin can also turn the assistant off for a team.
What can the AI assistant actually do?
It rewrites rough notes into clear stories, fixes grammar, or makes text more concise, always as a suggestion you accept or discard. It can also turn a voice recording into clean text, and it follows a short house-style playbook you write for your team.
Which AI does Scrumpy use?
The writing assistant is built on Claude. Voice notes are transcribed with OpenAI's Whisper and then cleaned up by Claude. You do not need your own AI account or API key, it is all handled for you.
